Memory Foam Mattress
Is your memory foam mattress a silent killer?
Memory foam is a wonderfully soft material to sleep on and many people have enjoyed sleeping on them, but does your memory foam mattress have a more sinister story to tell?
I've been reading around on the web about this issue and it seems the off gassing from memory foam mattresses has dissipated these past few years as manufacturers voluntarily change over from using some pretty nasty fire retardants that although have not explicitly been blamed for peoples problems, they have however yielded to public outcry on the problems they suffered after using such mattresses. Funnily it seems the argument has moved on now since there are more environmentally friendly and chemical free options which are already on the market, such as latex mattresses and even chemical free memory foam mattresses.
Hypnia is a company which offers a 100% natural memory foam mattresses which do not use any harsh chemicals or additives in the production and manufacture of their mattresses, infact plant oils, plant extracts and even water is used to get a mattress which has the same feel and abilities of a memory foam mattress without the off-gassing or chemical odor.
They also claim to have the ONLY natural memory foam mattresses in the world, using only 100% natural product without blending or using any chemicals
Distinctive Advantages of Natural Memory Foam
1) Luxurious and outstanding comfort.
2) No chemical off-gassing or pungent odor.
3) Wholesome, allergy-free sleep environment.
4) Sturdy (20 year warranty)
5) 80% more breathable than conventional memory foam.
6) More rapid recovery time.
7) Environmentally bio-degradable.
But in my research on the net, it seems that if you have any fears of using memory foam mattresses then you can rest easy again, there is an alternative out there and it doesnt off gas nor is it a cause of concern literally because the memory foam mattress is made from Hevea Milk, Dunlop Latex, Organic Essential Oils, Natural Plant Extracts and wrapped in Certified Organic Cotton as a cover for the mattress, it seems that they make their own mattresses rather than relying on cheap imports. This is not criticising the Chinese by the way, as even MyEssentia.com says the competitative claims of American (US), UK and China companies all fall short because of their use of blended material.
Some even use Soy or Cedar Oil in their mattress which allows them some liberty on claiming their mattress to have natural capacities, which of course are marketed alot louder than if they was claiming to be using blended materials, however this just got me thinking, I should pay more attention to your world and what is really going on.
Ok - I bought a memory foam mattress and I've got to say I love mine, but recent reading of the dangers of memory foam mattresses has got me thinking, so is there an alternative to this or do I have to chuck my mattress away at the dead of night just because if i stuffed it in the bin, I dont think it'd come out without very easily without a fight and that would really upset the bin man. Anyway - I started to look around and it dawned on me that besides getting a latex mattress which appealed to me a lot, I just could not bring myself in spending more money until I had a better choice to choose from, literally because there are so many bed suppliers out there and each one makes claims on being the best, I just had to find out who actually MANUFACTURES their own memory foam, in this case it is only Myessentia and Tempur.
Chemicals that are talked about in some articles are not only in memory foam mattresses but present in TVs, Couches/Sofas and even in cars, but sleeping on a memory foam mattress can literally mean 1/3 of your life is spent in the company of this comfortable mattress but just pay attention to your mattress, and if it is still off gassing after a week, you might just want to think about getting your money back for a better alternative! I'm still using my memory foam mattress as its a pleasure to sleep on and I dont have any symptoms or ill effects from sleeping on it, reassuringly my mattress didnt come with strong odour, infact it was so light I had to (naively) try to smell for it just to convince myself if it was still out gassing or not.
*Ok dont try to smell for it, thats just dumb - I found out either its a fire retardent or its the adhesive they used to stick the mattress together OR its a cheap memory foam which hasnt formed correctly etc etc. which means there may be all kinds of different funky smells... all of which are not good for you.
Anyway - Hope you've learnt a few things about memory foam mattresses and the alternatives which are available for you. I will try to update you on my own experiance with a non-natural memory foam mattress and report back to you soon as possible!

"alot" is not a word. Neither is "alittle".
A lot and a little.
